Signs of Toenail Fungus

Toenail fungus can show different signs in each person, but there are common signs associated with toenail fungus that you should watch out for. If you spot any of these signs, you may have toenail fungus.

It is important to recognize the signs of toenail fungus because the sooner you know you have toenail fungus you can start treating it and have a higher probability of getting rid of the fungal infection quickly.

The most common symptom of toenail fungus is discoloration of the toenail(s). This mean that your nail turns a slight yellow or brown color, in some cases it may even turn white.

A rough and thick nail is also a sign of a fungal infection. If you notice that your toenail has become thicker and "crumbles" on the edges, you most likely have toenail fungus.

One of the more painful signs of toenail fungus is when your nail becomes separated from the nail bed. If you notice this, it is important that you seek medical attention at soon as possible.

Itchy nails are also a sign of a possible fungal infection of the toenail. If you notice that you are often itching under your toenail, you may have toenail fungus. You should try to prevent yourself from scratching yourself because you can spread the fungus to other nails on your feet or hands.

As you can see, discoloration, thickening nails, nail separation from the nail bed and itchy nails are the most common signs of toenail fungus.

If you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms, it is likely that you have toenail fungus. You should start thinking about how you want to treat the fungal infection in your toenail.
